“The Kitchen” is the name of the small chamber in a lobster trap where the tasty crustacean enjoys its bait. For many people, lobsters and kitchens just naturally go together. It is one of Mid Coast Maine’s iconic dishes, often served with a side of sea breeze at one of the region’s many lobster docks. But Mid Coast Maine’s fishermen and farmers bring a lot more to the table, like seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs, organically raised meat, and the catch of the day. Creative chefs and caterers are drawn to the region by the abundance of fresh local produce and seafood. The Mid Coast’s diverse restaurants offer a fusion of innovative cooking techniques with the traditional harvests of land and sea. Then ask around for a “bean supper” where you can sample the specialties of the local cooks and meet the natives. Farmers Markets |
