Waterfall Arts
Arts and Entertainment
Waterfall Arts is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) contemporary arts center located in Belfast and Montville, Maine, dedicated to: Our Mission generating awareness of the deep connections between art and nature in the lives of all people powering understanding of the arts through classes, residencies, exhibitions and events for all ages and abilities sourcing inspiration within our local, national and global communities Why this Mission? We strongly believe that engaging in the arts contributes to a greater awareness of the world and of the connections between humans and their environment, fostering a more creative and sustainable future for all people. There is a long legacy supporting the relationship between art and nature throughout the history of the arts in Maine. Since the mid-19th century when Thomas Cole ventured to Mt. Desert for the first time, artists have been drawn to Maine by its natural beauty. This relationship extends through all the arts and continues to this day. Artistic appreciation and celebration of Maine's natural environment has played a large part in raising awareness of this vital resource, contributing to the development of tourism in the State, and ultimately, to the conservation movement. The combination of the inland Kingdom Falls site with its extraordinary natural setting and waterfall, and the Belfast site, with its prime location in the heart of beautiful mid-coast Maine, gives Waterfall Arts the unique opportunity to position itself as an arts destination focused on art + nature. What it Means Waterfall Arts? mission of "art + nature" is interpreted broadly, ranging from traditional landscape painting to cutting edge site specific work, from creating art using natural materials to computer and digital works incorporating natural imagery, from poetry and dance inspired by the sights and sounds of nature, to "green" architecture and environmentalism.
